Amrut Spectrum 004

Amrut Distilleries' award winning Spectrum has a new release that’s already making headlines as the world’s first multi-wood barrel single malt whisky. Amrut Spectrum 004 Single Malt Whisky is a limited edition with less than 6,000 bottles available world-wide. Coming soon to retail locations in the United States through Glass Revolution Imports, this intricate single malt boasts a mosaic of tastes and flavors lent by a variety of Oak.

THE UNIQUE QUALITIES OF SPECTRUM 004

Spectrum 004 is an exclusive whisky that took quite a journey from grain to bottle. This spirit was initially matured in an ex-bourbon barrel before it was transferred to a custom-built, unique barrel which was constructed out of four different varieties of oak. Spectrum 004 was named after this Spectrum cask it was aged in. The four varieties of oak included American Oak with level three charring, French Oak with slight toasting, Ex-Oloroso Sherry Stave and Ex-Px Sherry Stave. Together they create a complex single malt that whisky enthusiasts are raving about.

“Whisky, for the past 400 years, has traditionally been aged in a cask made of one type of oak wood, which lends flavour and complexities to the malt,” stated Amrut distillery in a release. “Amrut wanted to experiment with a cask with four different types of wood. This presented a unique challenge, as each oak-wood stave had different thickness and properties.”

FLAVOR EXPERIENCE AS DESCRIBED BY HEAD DISTILLER ASHOK CHOKALINGAM

This dark honey colored whisky offers quite the tasting journey, beginning with very strong scents of dried fruits and Christmas pudding with a near-perfect companion of coconut cream dosed with vanilla. Next, the spirit shows off an element of sticky toffee pudding with a shade of sandalwood and the phenol that is completely dusked due to the dominating influence of sherry is said to be mesmerizing.

Tasting Spectrum 004 is a jammy and syrupy affair, and you’ll experience a cloud of mild spice dust that is quite lovely. The dust is enveloped by vanilla pudding and a creamy texture and there are juicy sultanas with an aromatic mask joined by the mildest hint of phenol and a perfect degree of wood tone. To finish, the whisky is brilliantly refreshing with a minty shade, ending with a sweet tone.
