WhistlePig Sells Minority Stake to the LVMH

Moët Hennessy has taken a minority stake in Vermont-based WhistlePig. The financial terms weren't disclosed. The deal will see WhistlePig's international standing increase significantly as Moët Hennessy assumes the whiskeys distribution outside of the US, intending to expand the brand's presence abroad greatly.

This is definitely a common practice as traditional giant Scotch owning companies expand their US footprint for purchasing a stake in US-based whiskey companies. In 2017 LVMH the parent company for MHUSA took a stake in Woodinville. Both Woodinville & WhistlePig were heavily influenced by the legendary master distiller Dave Pickerell, who passed away in 2018.

In 2016 Remy Cointreau took on Westland. Also, in 2016 Smooth Ambler sold a majority stake to Pernod Ricard. Constellation Brands invested in High West in 2017. William Grant purchased new York's Tuthilltown Distillery. As you can see, this is a growing trend and will continue to expand. If you would like to look at a running list, click here.
